I mapped my run, too!

Hi ladies,

Here's my route, too. I think it will be a good idea if everyone comes up with their own "home" route since the chances that we will all be able to get together three times per week are somewhat slim (especially our non-Nacogdoches peops).

Sonnie, do you know how many times around the track at SFA or up at the bleacher level equals one mile? That might be a good place to workout on our own or together.

How does Sunday, January 6 sound for a start date for everyone? It's the beginning of the second week, but still the first Sunday in January, so we'll be doing all the good. Anyone? Anyone? Bueller? Bueller?

Okay, here's my route. I have no idea why my last little part goes all awry by my driveway. Oh well. Maybe it's because I'll probably be in a frenzy by the time I make it home. Ha.

Map My Run

Hello (Future) Runners!
Sonnie told me about this really great website that I thought I'd pass on to y'all. It's called Map My Run, and it allows you to - wait for it - map your run! Just enter you starting address and click and drag your way down streets and along sidewalks until you hit 3.1 miles. Or one mile. Whatever works for you.

Also, if you live and run in Nacogdoches, might I suggest running on the nicely paved paths in the Native Plant Center on Raguet? They claim to have two miles criss-crossing back there and I attempted to run some of my daily walk with the dog down there on Saturday. The run went pretty well, but I had a hard time walking for the two days after. Oh, well.

I'm at work and have to run! (Get it? Run?)

Where's the Bengay?

I have decided to not log in what I eat all the time. That will definitely get old. But in order to keep accountability to myself and to y'all I will try and do my best to log in my exercise.

Exercise:

SFA's Track: Walked/jogged 3 miles in 40 minutes

How I felt afterwards:

Accomplished and very sweaty.

How I feel now (3 hours later): Holy crap. I am tired.

I gol' darn gone and done it

Since I've replied ... I guess I'm committed. There. Ah! My lazy, don't-want-to-walk-faster-than-a-two-year-old side is fighting to keep my fingers off the keyboard, but I would LOVE to get in better shape!! Thanks, Mary, for being our inspirational motivational guide to self-improvement. My husband is all for it. For good reasons. :)

I've been an amateur, non-competitive runner off and on. The last really good time was in high school. I biked a lot in college. I started to go running two months after my last baby was born but then we moved two weeks later and I was so unfamiliar with this new area and busy with settling in I never got back into it. I have a history now of back problems, so I need to get my back stronger! I did yoga all through my last pregnancy and that was fabulous. I miss that physical/mental rejuvenation.

Back in September I heard about the 5k here for the 9 Flags Festival and thought, "That sounds fun!" but never even got my running shoes on.

So, here we go! Time to get my back strong!

Here goes...

Exercise:

40 minutes - recumbent bike
10 minutes - jogging on the treadmill
10 minutes - cool down stretches

*Added:

1 hour - walking at the mall with my client

Foods:

Breakfast: Honey Oat Cereal mixed with some granola
Coffee with honey and fat free milk
Lunch: Beef Tips with white steamed rice
Banana
Half an orange
Half an apple
Grapes

*Added:

Dinner: Minestrone soup and cheese bread, russian tea

Running Scared!

Hey everyone!

I am also kind of terrified about running a 5K. I've always wanted to, but I've never been much of a runner. I get really bad cramps in my right side when I run, and I've tried stretching, breathing, eating before a run, eating after a run, holding on to my side WHILE I run. So this is something I'll have to keep in mind and work on. Also, the actually-sticking-to-the-plan part. That will also be tough. But we can do it!

And how exciting to be a part of such a great group of ambitious peeps! I have noticed that the more people who are trying to do something together, the easier it becomes. At this rate, we'll be flying through 5K's in no time!

Bring on the pain! Ok, maybe not .

I confess I have run 5k races before but I've never been proud of my times or pace. In fact, I quit the last race to writhe in pain--on ground no less! In my own defense, I had a stomach bug but it could have been easily mistaken for a case of the I-don't-want-tos.

I am so! excited! to join your group and can't wait to start training, thank you.

5k or Bust indeed!

I wanted to name that blog this (5k or bust), but some peops apparently wanted to run a 5k back in 2005 and they beat us to it. Oh well. I am also nervous and excited about this fitness goal. I don't run. Ever. But it's so healthful and I like the idea of a manageable goal and that we're not going for a marathon right off the bat. Or is it right off the pavement? I hope to take some "before" photos of everyone and some photos as we get closer to our goal. Who knows--this could become the "Our 10k" blog someday. And maybe "our olympics." Okay, I won't get ahead of myself.

Another goal for this blog is to be able to share support and progress with all the participants, even if they aren't nearby (hi Jen!). Also, we can have our regimine posted here. Oh, and by the way, here's an outline of our training plan.

So does anyone want to pick a start date? No time like January 1st week or do we want to avoid the curse of the New Year's Resolution?

5K or Bust

Hrm...

I felt a bit hesitant about signing up for a 5K. In all the years that I have exercised I have never felt like an accomplished runner. I always tell people that I sort of jog and I do it at a snail's pace.

I've secretly wanted to do a 5K for a while now but never had people who were around the same fitness as me when it comes to jogging/running. Everyone I know is either an accomplished runner or they just plain look at me as if I were crazy. Run? Why run when you can drive?? Or the usual...Run? I only run if I'm being chased. :)

I'm excited but still hesitant about this whole run for a whole 3 miles bit but I'm definitely game, y'all.
